The weekend’s writing retreat I led's been intense and epiphanies galore. What I’m about to share is almost holy, unbelievable. Greg, who’s in his late 60s, first came to work with me in March for a 2-hour Airbnb experience. He was so moved that he came to a full weekend Writing retreat in April. At that time he was thinking of retiring in 10 years. After the March retreat weekend, he talked about maybe retiring in five years. We then continued to work together, his writing unfolded, his life became opened up in new exciting ways. His plan became two years. And now Friday, he’s here for another retreat, he told me he’s been so inspired by all of the changes in his life that have gone on since he has started writing in this way, and he’s becoming so alive and open to himself, that he believes his life is worth living now, not later, and is going to retire in two months. It truly does blow me away to be able to have this kind of impact on people’s lives. I am not sharing this to brag, I am sharing this because it’s just mind-boggling how deep and how effective and how inspirational the work is, and the depth in which it helps people’s journey and transformation in their own lives. To see themselves at last. To express themselves at last. To hold hope and healing and new purpose…

on a sleeve of a morning sun  stillness summoned me
into question

your eyes have been
opened
to an image of
another day

a photo album
remember those?
cracked adhesive  pages enraptured by
a crinkled plastic sleeve?

such timeless protectors  no longer exist

you and me at river’s edge
you and me a heartbeat
you and me a glowing star
  such repositories
for flashbulb photos
are buried in boxes
tomb closets

yes, photo album happy

a nostalgic catacomb

I have access to a beautiful Sedona home in November, right next to the red rock mountains, endless trails, and of course the magic of a place that heals. I will lead an "Inspire Your Heart, Transform Your Life" retreat, which promises ultimate clarity, confidence, and Self-connection.
I'm thinking 3-4 nights, and will include stunning hiking, guided writing, delicious cooking & beautiful photography sessions.

GREAT NEWS! I applied to become Santa Fe's Poet La

GREAT NEWS! I applied to become Santa Fe's Poet Laureate. I was a top candidate. For the moment, there's an appointment "hold" because of a temporary logistical issue that's being resolved. Until the City of Santa Fe goes through the process of filling the Arts & Culture Director position, which includes overseeing the poet laureate program, they're holding off from making a permanent appointment.

However, they appreciated my community-wide poetry initiatives that I'd proposed, and didn't want to wait, so as Option C, I'm the official ambassador for the Poet Laureate program for at least the next 6 months, until the new department director is established, and can make the formal appointment.

I will be doing all the Poet Laureate activities as I'd proposed, which includes making poetry accessible, inspirational, and part of everyday life. This will entail working with Santa Fe's hotels and restaurants to make poetry more visible, visiting local community centers, and offering poetry sessions in schools, including New Mexico School for the Deaf. I also proposed offering a poetry workshop to police and fire responders--to explore writing and expression-- as a means for trauma release and mental health.

I love the city of Santa Fe, our community members, and our cultural connections. It will be an honor and service to elevate the need, opportunity, and potential for extending poetry access across places, spaces, and communities.
